A small donation can have a large effect on the education projects that you will be supporting in India and Kenya. If you are interested in giving regularly, please see the "Regular Giving" section to the right.
 

Donate to Overseas Education Projects

On behalf of our Partner education organisations overseas, we would like to thank you for supporting their work.

In India

Access: getting children into school and keeping them there.
To run education and coaching/remedial centres, it costs our partner schools
- €1.50 - to provide a child with educational materials for one year (pencils and copybooks),
- €4 - to provide a child with a school uniform, and
- €9 - to 'mainstream' a child into formal education.

To fund the cost of teachers:
- €360 - will pay the annual salary of a coaching teacher, and
- €495 - will pay the annual salary of an AEC teacher.

Quality: giving children a quality, holistic education.

To appropriately train teachers and maintain a broad curriculum in schools, it costs
- €15 - to provide a games kit for one education centre (made up of cricket, badminton, ludo and carom sets),
- €20 - to provide a teacher with one course of professional development training, and
- €130 - to stock an education centre with art&craft supplies for a year.

In Kenya

Access: getting children into school and keeping them there.

To run education and coaching/remedial centres, it costs our partner schools
- €4 - to provide a child with educational materials for one year (copybooks, pencils, a maths set)
- €4.50 - to buy one science kit for one class.

To implement health and food programs, it costs
- €2 - to provide a child with regular medical check-ups for one year, and
- €20 - to provide a child with a daily school meal for one year.

To fund the cost of teachers
- €1,200 - will pay the annual salary of a teacher.

To provide extra tuition for senior students
- €1,200 - will fund the cost of running a 3-week summer course for approximately 650 students (paying for operational costs, teachers' salaries and educational materials)

Quality: giving children a quality, holistic education.
To appropriately train teachers and maintain a broad curriculum in schools, it costs
- €10 - to give a child regular music lessons for one year (as part of the school choir)
- €60 - to provide a teacher with one course of professional development training,
- €160 - to run a workshop on HIV/AIDS with 100 children, and
- €290 - to buy sports equipment for ball games for 50 children.

If you are a PAYE worker in the Republic of Ireland and you are generous enough to donate over €250 per annum, you can increase the value of the donation to Suas at no extra cost to you.

Suas can reclaim an extra 25% of the value of your donations if you are a standard rate tax payer of 20%. For example, if you have given €250 over the course of a year, this will be worth an extra €63 to Suas.

Suas can reclaim an extra 72% of the value of your donations if you are a higher rate taxpayer of 42%. For example, if you have given €250 over the course of a year, this is worth an extra €181 to Suas

Your support will allow Suas to plan and implement long term programmes that make a difference in the lives of thousands of children in under resourced communities in India and Kenya.

This year Suas initiatives will support the education of over 10,000 children through:

  • Teacher training
  • The provision of school resources
  • School infrastructure projects such as the Community Centre at DAS.
  • Community health care projects
  • Specific projects aimed at increasing the retention rates of students, the re-enrollment of those students that have dropped out and providing added support to those students deemed to be at risk of dropping out.
