19 children from the Aisling Project in Ballymun, celebrated the end of their time with DCU Suas Sports Education Programme with a graduation ceremony last Tuesday evening.
‘It gives the children an insight to what it would be like in college,... that it’s available for all children’ said Sadie Barrett, Aunt of Jordan Maxwell (Age 9). 17 families were present in the audience to watch as the children and mentors received a certificate of completion. The graduation marks the end of DCU Sports Education Programme for the academic year 09/10.
The Programme runs in partnership with the Aisling Project, DCU Suas society, and the DCU Access office. Every week for the last 7 weeks, primary school children from Ballymun have taken part in an afternoon of sport and homework working with Suas mentors and volunteers from the Rugby club, the Ultimate Frisbee Club and Dance Soc.
Sr Malen of the Aisling Project was delighted to present the Suas mentors with certificates of participation as she said to them “You have the power to change the world that we live in, but you have to act on it. “
The DCU Suas Sports Education Programme will start up for the new academic year in October 2010 .
