Volunteers start school!
17/06/2010

At the end of June, 6 teams of enthusiastic volunteers began their 10 week placements in India and Kenya.

From almost 200 applications, 6 teams were selected to work with teachers in our 6 partners: Gatoto, Maweni and Kongowea schools in Kenya; and DAS, Vikramshila and Sabuj Sangha in Kolkata, India.

Since February, volunteer teams have been eagerly preparing for their placement.  Their role for the summer will be as teaching assistants in schools and educational projects, supporting our Partner Organisations to deliver quality education.  They will contribute over 24,000 hours of curricular and extra curricular support to teachers over the next 10 weeks.

In addition to this practical support, this year's volunteers and their families have raised over €50,000 above their participation fee. This money will go directly towards supporting Quality Education programmes overseas; including teacher training, capacity building and organisational development.

This programme has been made possible through the support of over 200 people. Suas would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time, energy and expertise. We would like to particularly acknowledge the support from Irish Aid, both financial and otherwise.
