"Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire." William Butler Yeats

At Suas, we envision a world in which every child can achieve their potential, regardless of the challenges that they face where they are born.  To turn this vision into reality, Suas works with similar minded organisations to support and promote the vision of high quality holistic education.

Specifically, we partner with six community and education focused organisations in India and Kenya:

Each of these organisations has:

  • an education focus
  • a holistic approach
  • a strong understanding of their local context
  • an entrepreneurial spirit

Our partners vary in size ranging from supporting 1,000 children per day in one location to 50,000 children per day across a subcontinent.  Five of our partners are non-governmental, while our two partners in Mombasa are government run primary schools.

They are all facing challenges in terms of the communities they are working with, the problems they are trying to address and the resources to address those problems.

Given the different challenges and complexities that face each organisation, we take a highly tailored approach to each of our partnerships.  What is common within each partnership are the three elements of Suas's Partnership Framework:

-    A relationship based on mutual understanding and openness
-    Supporting our partners with financial and human resources to support their communities
-    Supporting the management teams of each partner to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of each organisation

Along with our partners, we provide over 13,000 children with the opportunity of an education, both academic and non-formal.  Our holistic approach also includes a focus on health - ensuring that the pupils are healthy and well nourished.

We also work with each of our partners to increase their capacity - supporting issues such as teacher training, infrastructure support and organisational strategy and planning.
