Donate to Suas

Suas works in partnership with four organisations in India: Development Action Society (DAS); Sabuj Sangha, and Vikramshila, based in Kolkata and Prayas based in Delhi. Suas offers technical and financial assistance, as well as providing support through our annual volunteer programme.

Prayas is one of India's foremost NGOs and they partner with the Indian Government to run 12 different programmes serving over 12,000 children through activities ranging from child protection to education initiatives. To date, Suas has provided support towards the 36 non-formal education centres that Prayas run. These centres aim to provide a friendly education to disadvantaged children aged between 5 & 10, with the aim of mainstreaming them into the formal government system. Other projects run by Prayas, for which Suas has provided limited support, include: boys & girls shelter homes, health clinics & vocational training centres.

Development Action Society (DAS) is a community-based NGO that works on education issues in South East Kolkata. Founded 20 years ago by a group of local women, DAS now assists over 1,000 children to receive an education through the provision of pre-primary schools and coaching centres. The aim of these programmes is to enable local children to gain access to government schools and then to help them to stay in school through the provision of extra coaching and support. The pre-primary schools work with children from 4 to 7, while the coaching centres work with students from 6 to 12.

DAS also works extensively in the area of health promotion and women's empowerment running a number of vocational training centres for women. Suas and DAS Partnerships have brought the successful mainstreaming of over 800 children, the provision of health checks for all children in the Non-Formal Education centres and special counselling for at risk children.
