Martin Tomlinson is the COO of Suas, managing the ongoing operation of our Programmes.
With a degree in Biochemical Engineering from University College London, Martin worked for ten years as a engineer across the food and fuel alchohol sectors (including developing systems for a chocolate factory!), first with Unilever then with WS Atkins & Partners.
He then embarked on a consulting career and has twenty-five years of experience across a wide range of roles, with an consistent focus on business development, effective teamwork & leadership and process improvement. He has worked mostly in the UK and Middle East, with Coopers and Lybrand, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Emirates Airlines.
He rejoined Emirates in 2000 to lead an internal consulting team to support the development of the rapidly growing airline (currently 50,000 staff approx).
Martin joined Suas in November 2010, led by a strong belief in the right of all children to access high quality education.
Clodagh O'Reilly - Business Development and Finance Manager
Having qualified as a CPA with Roches Stores, Clodagh travelled to Vancouver Canada where she took up the role of finance manager with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. She also completed a diploma in 'leadership for non-profits' at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Returning home in 2009, Clodagh joined the family business -- at a time when almost everyone was making the reverse trip and emigrating to Canada! Always keen to re-join the non-profit sector Clodagh came on board with Suas in August 2012 as Business Development and Finance manager. Outside of work, Clodagh enjoys being part of a choir and involved in working with youth in the community.
A graduate of Trinity College, Claire has a degree in Music Education and recently completed a Masters Degree in IT in Education. Before joining the Suas team, Claire taught music and history for a number of years, at both primary and secondary school level. Claire has also been involved in several community music youth groups for a number of years, teaching music to students of all ages in her local area.
Claire has a keen research interest in the area of technology-mediated teaching and learning, particularly in relation to collaborative learning. Claire joined Suas in November 2007 as co-ordinator of The Bridge to College programme, which provides young people from designated disadvantaged second-level schools with an innovative learning experience using technology.
A graduate of Celtic Studies from NUIG Adelaide Nic Chárthaigh has diplomas in Public Relations and Project Management and an MBA from Henley Management College in Henley-on-Thames.
She worked extensively in the Irish language non-profit sector for over 20 years at both executive and senior management level. As Associate Specialist of Irish Language Services in the Institute of Public Administration she provided consultancy and training in language planning, language awareness and language acquisition for public bodies to enable them to deliver a bilingual service under the obligations of The Official Languages Act 2003. In 2008 she was appointed project manager of an international team of language planning consultants in drafting a 20 year strategic plan for the Irish language commissioned by The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. An appointed board member of Foras na Gaeilge (the cross-border body responsible for the promotion of Irish throughout the island of Ireland), she also lectures part-time in Strategic Management and Project Management in FIONTAR, DCU.

Joanne joined the Suas team in October 2009.
She first came to know about Suas in 2003 when an old friend took part in the Suas Volunteer Programme. She stayed involved with Suas in different ways after this time: office intern (2004), overseas volunteer (2006), Suas Alumni Network officer (2007), short-term staff on the Overseas Programme (2008/9) and overseas development coordinator (2009).
Joanne's academic background is languages, politics and administration. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2005 with a degree in European Studies. She later completed a Masters in Public Administration in the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
Prior to working full-time with Suas, Joanne worked as a teaching assistant in the Sorbonne in Paris and as a project executive with Middlequarter Consultancy, working on projects for the One Foundation and the Children's Rights Alliance in Ireland. She also worked as a relief social care worker with St. John of God Hospitaller Services on a part time basis between 2003 and 2009.
An Applied Science graduate from DIT, Kevin started volunteering as a mentor with the B2C in October 2008. He has a strong interest in education and divided his time between working as a primary school substitute teacher and helping out on the B2C.
He has a background in computer science and software engineering having worked in the field for over 5 years. Kevin joined Suas in July 2009 as Programme Coordinator for the Bridge To College programme.
A native of Dublin, Dermot studied Computer Engineering in Trinity College Dublin, before beginning a career as a software developer. In Trinity, Dermot joined the Society of St Vincent de Paul, and began to take an interest in social disadvantage. Since graduating, Dermot has volunteered with the Society in several capacities, working both on the ground and at organisational level.
In summer 2009, Dermot travelled to Kenya with Suas as Team Coordinator for Maweni Primary School in Mombasa. This experience highlighted the benefits of quality education and in-service learning. Following this trip, Dermot joined Suas full-time and is currently working as manager on the Volunteer Programme.
Mary completed an bachelors degree in History and Irish, after which she worked as a project executive for Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge for two years. A life long fascination with Africa and a desire for a new experience brought her to Ghana and South Africa in 2005 as a volunteer in a childrens' home, and this trip sparked an enduring interest in volunteering, travel and other cultures.
Mary returned to Ghana and South Africa in 2006, and also traveled to Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi and Australia during that time. In between stints working for various Irish Language education organisations, such as Gaelscoilenna and Gaelchultúr, Mary managed to return to Malawi for a year, combining her two main passions of horses and Africa in working as a horse-back safari guide in Nyika National Park.
A decision to fully pursue a career in development led Mary to leave her job and undertake a Masters Degree in Development Studies in UCD, completing her minor thesis on the topic of 'Them and Us: Representations of Africa in the Irish National Print Media'. Following internship placements with various NGOs such as VSO and Dóchas, Mary travelled to Kolkata as Development Coordinator during VP 11, and joined Suas full-time as Volunteer Programme Office in October 2011.
In her spare time, Mary enjoys rambling around the Wicklow mountains on foot or on horse back, travelling, reading, yoga and talking politics.
Suzanne is a UCD graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Social Science. After graduating, she worked for two years as a Youth Coordinator with the Bohermore Development Project in Galway city. She also worked part-time as an Information Officer and Advocate with the Citizen's Information Centre and Refugee Advice Service.
Returning to UCD in 2006 to complete a Masters in Development Studies, Suzanne took the opportunity to carry out research in Ethiopia. She completed her thesis on conflict and violence among pastoral communities in the Awash Valley and then joined Suas in September 2007. Prior to working with the Partner Support Programme, Suzanne managed the Suas Volunteer Programme for 3 years.
With an MA in Film Production and Screen Culture from UCD and a BA in English and Psychology from UCC, Sam worked in the newspaper industry for 5 years, and was previously the Deputy Editor of the East Cork Journal.
Sam is also a social film maker and producer and over the past two years he has worked with various non-profit organisations on issues including Gender Equality, Youth and Student Rights, Social Entrepeneurship and Youth Engagement amongst others.
Gina is a graduate of UCD with an honours degree in French and Spanish, spending her summers in Spain while at college. She joined the Department of An Taoiseach in 1996 for 3 years when the travel bug hit, leading her to travel around the world through Asia, Australia and the US, some of this time spent working in Energy Australia, ANZ and Credit Suisse in Sydney. When she returned to Ireland's shores in 2000, she joined Accenture European Service Centre for 4 years and moved to The Coca-Cola Company in 2004 where she got heavily involved in and worked passionately on the company's corporate citizenship programme. Returning to her much-loved 'home away from home' Sydney in 2007, she joined a boutique marketing and PR firm, Taurus Marketing. Gina experienced a life changing event in November 2008 which resulted in her returning to Ireland in 2009 and changing career direction into the not for profit area and brought her to the Suas team in March 2010 to offer her skills and experience to the Global Citizenship Programme, before taking her current role in May 2012.
