Vikramshila is based in Kolkata and has 137 staff working together to realise their mission to "make quality education a reality for all children in India".

Vikramshila works with teachers and teacher trainers, children and communities, government systems and educational institutions to bring about a transformation in education so as to make possible a world that is just, equitable and harmonious.

Their core areas of work are

a) Action Research & Pedagogy
b) Capacity Building
c) Advocacy and Networking

Through their various educational initiatives across India, Nepal and Bangladesh, over the last two decades, they have partnered with more than 120 grassroots level organizations in order to provide inservice and pre-service teacher training to more than 9000 teachers and through them reached out to more than 300,000 vulnerable children. In addition they have been actively advocating for children's right to education, equity and for strengthening the public education system.

The operational strategy of Vikramshila is simple - "keeping in heart the best interests of the child". From the very beginning children have been the guiding force of all that Vikramshila says and does.
