What’s the story?
The Suas Volunteer Programme is an unique opportunity for you to help improve the education of disadvantaged children by working as a teaching assistant in India, Kenya or Zambia.
Living and working with a team of volunteers, you'll get first-hand experience of life in a developing country. You will gain a deeper understanding of global development issues, while advancing your own personal and professional skills.
It's a programme with big challenges, but even bigger rewards. Since 2002 over 1,100 Suas volunteers have worked alongside our local partners in India, Kenya and Zambia as teaching assistants, mentors and coaches. Coming from a wide range of disciplines, our volunteers have used the skills and experiences gained from the programme to enhance their chosen careers, and to effect positive social change.
After a successful Zambian pilot in 2016, we'll be sending three teams to new schools in Zambia in 2017. We’ll also be working with a new partner in Kolkata, the Thoughtshop Foundation. This will be our first six week placement in India, and all other placements in India will be for 10 weeks.
