My name is Diana Musenya and I am an alumnus of Gatoto Primary School. I have been involved with Gatoto in one way or another for over seventeen years. I went to Gatoto School from 1997 to 2003 when I sat for my KCPE examination. When the results were released in December of that year I had attained a good grade and in February of the following year I joined form one.

My high school years were spent at Kinyui Girls’ School in Machakos County. Through Gatoto’s final support my high school journey was a smooth run. I sat my KCSE examination in 2007. I scored a good grade again which enabled me to join a public university. The system in Kenya then was such that Government sponsored students would have to wait for almost two years before they joined a public University. During this time while I waited to start university, I worked as an untrained teacher at Gatoto Primary where, in addition to teaching, I was involved in other activities e.g. I was a member of the post primary committee which guides and monitors former Gatoto Pupils.
In October 2009 I joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a B.A. in Economics and Communication. Gatoto has been there for me during my four years of university education and in addition, during long holidays while in campus I still could come and teach at Gatoto. This not only boosted my finances, but it also acted as a way of me giving back to Gatoto. I believed that being in the school would positively impact on the students and they would see that they too could make it, irrespective of where they came from or had been raised.
In December 2013 I graduated with a Second Class Honours – upper division. Furthermore, I have a certificate in guidance and counselling from The National Youth Guidance and Counselling Association (NYGCA) and a Conversational Level Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language. I am passionate about community work hence I was also extensively Involved in community work through participation in volunteer activities with campus based clubs like Rotaract International, psychology club, Organization For Student Volunteers, and National Youth Guidance and Counseling Association.
Currently I am engaged with ChildsLife International as the community coordinator for Mukuru slums in their Live Learn & Earn (LLE) HIV /AIDS program where I recruit members for the program, offer guidance and counseling, monitor their progress, facilitate group therapy among other things.
I hope to start my Masters Degree this year, if all goes well. I believe the future holds infinite possibilities and though I might not be where I wish to be yet, I sure am on the path towards there. I attribute a great part of this to Gatoto and all the great friends of Gatoto. Thank you.
